As we prepare to announce our online studio launch date, the team at Always Yoga wants to offer some free classes to our community. Team Julie and Emilie, it’s just us two tapping away behind our laptops or teaching to a camera. We are so excited to start sharing with our community!
Over here at Always headquarters, we love a strong practice, we love lifting weights and we love being productive, sometimes a little too much. It can be so gratifying to work a little longer or to try a little harder in order to meet a goal or make progress faster.
Time and time again, both of us have learned the benefits of finding balance between doing and being. So much so that we’ve coined the term ‘BOYT’ - that’s Burnt Out Yoga Teachers. Despite working in the wellness sphere, we've both been guilty of over-committing at the expense of our own energy levels and peace. Generally, it comes from a place of joy and excitement, or wanting to do more, but ends with feeling depleted and exhausted.
I like to think of energy like spending on a credit card, you have to pay it back. Can you spend a little, then save a little, or, will you go hard and pay the price with burn out? Either way, you have to make time to rest. We know we’d prefer to choose when we make that time.
When we practiced reframing rest as something useful (it's essential, after all) it helped with any feelings of guilt that came with slowing down. After all, how can we as yoga practitioners feel connection to the divine, or be fully present in the moment if we're a bundle of nervous energy?
In order to make progress in any facet of being, we know that taking time to nurture, relax and restore is imperative. This can look like:
Prioritising good quality sleep
Balancing work and leisure time
Prioritising nourishing non physical practices like pranayama or meditation
Eating nourishing food
Learning how to rest without guilt
Turning off notifications
Practising restorative yoga
For us at Always, restorative yoga doesn't have a goal or an aim beyond taking the time to be with ourselves. Practicing restorative feels nourishing for body, mind and soul. It's a way to practice and reap the benefits of yoga, without expending precious energy. Soothing, calming, nurturing and importantly for us, balancing.
So, whether you adore taking time out or you’re reluctant to get off the proverbial treadmill, we’d love to offer you a free full body restore class to help find balance amongst the chaos of life. Click the video below to access.
Make sure to stay tuned for our upcoming launch date for our online studio, where we offer a well-rounded range of classes designed to energise, to soothe, to challenge and to calm.
With love,
Emilie & Julie
