Yoga Speak Explained: "walk out the dog" or "walk the dog"

You might have heard this one in class and wondered "what the..?!".

It's slang.

In Downward Facing Dog (adho mukha svanasana), we can all feel a little stiff in the back of the legs when we first arrive into the pose.

So what does "walk the dog" mean?

Bend one knee, straighten the other leg, and then swap. You might take turns pressing each heel toward the floor in a peddling motion.

It's simply a nice way to ease into the pose.

But remember:

The goal isn't to necessarily have both heels on the ground, or your legs straight. Your down dog might have both knees bent, and heels lifted. That's perfect, too.
